1950s Popeye the Sailor Getar Mattel Music Box Guitar Toy with Original Box

  

"THE POPEYE GETAR" MUSIC BOX TOY - (c) 1950s Mattel Inc. 6" x 13.75" x 1.5. We are offering an original Popeye the Sailor Man "Getar" musical guitar.

It still has its four original tuning pegs, nylon strings, and rope-like yarn strap. Also included is the often-missing removable pipe (which was to be used as a guitar pick). Colorful 4.5" x 6.25" die-cut decal on guitar face (litho on paper) features a great Popeye image.

The metal crank handle has it's original wooden knob. The music box inside originally played "Popeye the Sailor Man" when crank is turned.

Music no longer plays when cranked. We feel the inner mechanical workings of this toy are possibly restorable with the proper mechanical knowledge and expertise. Notably, this musical toy also comes with it's original 6.25" x 14" x 1.75 box.

This highly graphic cardboard package is loaded with exceptional eye appeal. Collectively, a great Popeye item with bold imagery.

Condition is considered GOOD with minimal surface/stain/edge wear. Very mild decal wear on toy with no plastic cracks or breaks apparent. Very mild surface creasing on box with one 5/8 flap edge tear. Overall, we feel this is still a better-than-average example by most standards (see photos). A uncommon original POPEYE display for the VINTAGE TOY MEMORABILIA enthusiast.
